"Package Codes"
were used by Shelby American when placing Domestic Special
Orders (DSOs) with Ford Motor Company for new Mustangs that
would be turned into Shelby G.T. cars.
Shelby American's growth plan for '67 included offering three different body styles and two engine
options. Air conditioning and exhaust emissions (smog) were
also "core" options. To streamline the ordering of
cars with the same options, "package codes" were implemented. Each DSO would be limited to a single
package code, though multiple paint codes could be specified
on an order that contained multiple cars. See image above in
the CUSTOMER field: "(413C
Pkg.)"
Does the 4-character
package code look familiar? Of course it does! The
package code is part of your 1967 Shelby American G.T. 350 /
G.T. 500 VIN,
specifically characters three through six. In the case of
the GT500 convertible, we have
67413C9A00139.
Here's the
4-page DSO #2512 for Shelby 00139.

One 1967 G.T. 500 convertible (package
code 413C) and one G.T. 500 hardtop (package code 413H) were
ordered before Ford scaled back the '67 program. Both cars were built and delivered to Shelby in
November 1966. The remainder of the '67 production cars were
limited to a single fastback "F" body style.
The
following table shows the 18 package codes that were
actually built:

The
'ordered' column is what was originally ordered per the DSOs. Many orders
were cancelled and others were modified with Supplemental
Change Notices (e.g. a car would have been ordered with
smog, and then the smog was deleted, resulting in a 202F
package becoming a 200F package). The majority of
DSOs that were cancelled were for air conditioning equipped G.T. 500 cars.

by rarity, head over to the
DSO Microfilm Observations
page.
