In the 1960's, the
state of California issues special license plates to
automobile manufacturers and dealerships. The license plates
would be used on a temporary basis when vehicles needed to
be driven on public roads.
I have not found any
other comprehensive published document that lists all the
plate numbers and which specific manufacturers or
dealerships they were issued to.
The limited
information in the tables below has primarily been gleaned
from years of scrutinizing vintage photos found in
automotive magazines from the late 1960s.

In addition to the large numerical
designation assigned to each manufacturer or dealer, each
plate also had a unique alpha-numeric identifier, vertically
positioned on the left of the plate. |
