Prior to beginning the physical restoration in February 2010, a year of research was conducted. Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on the way you look at it), the research hasn't stopped. What we learn - we publish and that was everyone can benefit.

Throughout the ongoing research, we've uncovered many new photographs and documents which have allowed us to draw numerous new conclusions. Still, there are a number of things that would benefit the project, and the expanded effort to document the details of numerous 1967 Shelby American company cars and engineering vehicles.

This short list are some of the items we know would be beneficial to Project Red Hot. By no means it is all-inclusive when it comes to learning and sharing information on all the Shelby engineering vehicles of the time period. If you have any related documents, please don't hesitate to contact us.

  • Ford Motor Company Special Order Form FSO/DSO 2512
(found 2014 - Kudos to the Vinman!).

  • Shelby American purchase order 3002 (the Ford DSO Item Number).

  • Ford accounting department post-build invoice to Shelby American for DSO Items 3002. On the invoice dated Nov-19, 1966, the convertible was item number "84 L3002".

  • Any Ford documents that reference a car by the prototype ID of "V-813-9" or Ford file number of "23475", roughly dated around February/March 1967. These reference numbers, along with "Show Car," were on the seat tags in the convertible.

  • Any Ford paperwork related to any transactions, such as sales derived from the employee auction lot, that references any 1967 model year Mustang or Shelby GT cars that were "disposed" of.

  • A.O. Smith "Ionia work orders" referenced by the VanAkin letter, dated December 8, 1967. Specifically the potentially relevant work order numbers include: #2639, #2644, #2645, #2646, #2647 and #2654-1 through #2654-5.

  • Shelby American accounting department paperwork that references when the convertible was returned to inventory from 'Work In Process,' or documents that reference any specific expenses allocated to the convertible. On Shelby American documents, the convertible may have been referenced by its company vehicle inventory number 062, complete VIN, serial number 0139 or by the term "'68 proto."

  • Any document that references a Zurich American claim number related to the reported theft of the convertible.

  • Photographs and or reports from either Zurich American Insurance or the Los Angeles Police Department in relation to the reported theft of the convertible.

  • Any vintage photographs of the convertible, dressed in either 1967 or 1968 style fiberglass.
